Petronas, PTT extends gas production from Malaysia-Thailand JDA for another 35 years

KUALA LUMPUR - Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, in collaboration with Thailand's PTT subsidiaries, has secured a new 35-year production sharing contract for a gas-producing block in the Malaysia-Thailand Joint Development Area (MTJDA), according to a statement from Petronas. The contract for Block A-18-01 was signed by PC JDA Ltd, a unit of Petronas Carigali, and PTT's subsidiaries PTTEP JDX Thailand Ltd Co and PTTEP JDX Thailand (JDA) Ltd, following government approvals from both Malaysia and Thailand.

The extended contract will continue the development of Block A-18 beyond its current expiration date of April 20, 2029. It also includes an adjacent exploration area with potential for additional resources. The agreement includes a gas sales deal between the parent companies, Petronas and PTT, to ensure continuous gas supply to both nations. From January 1, the new PSC covers both the original Block A-18 area and the added new area, spanning around 7,250 square kilometres.

The MTJDA consists of Blocks A-18-01 and B-17-01, together with a combined natural gas production capacity of approximately 700 million standard cubic feet per day. Both countries distribute the production equally. Block A-18-01 includes several gas fields such as Cakerawala, Bumi, Suriya, Bulan, South Bulan, Senja, East Bumi, Samudra, and Wira, along with the open area. Block B-17-01, on the other hand, comprises Muda, Tapi, Tanjung, Amarit, Jengka, Melati, and Andalas gas fields.

Ainoor Abizzurin Abdullah, director of PC JDA, expressed that the new PSC marks the beginning of the next phase in Block A-18-01's development. He emphasized the strong collaboration between Malaysia and Thailand in maximizing value through enhanced resource monetisation and operational synergies.
