Parents in Ashanti make U-turn on Category C, D Schools as reporting deadline approaches

Parents in Ashanti have reversed their stance on accepting Category C and D schools as the deadline for reporting senior high school students nears. The School Placement Resolution Centre in Kumasi has been addressing concerns for five days, with the September 18 start of classes looming. Some parents, whose children's placements are still pending, are now prepared to accept any school their children are placed in, regardless of the aggregate score.

This change in attitude stems from the fact that some academic activities have already begun in certain institutions, leaving unplaced students at risk of missing important coursework. Concerns have been raised about long distances, high transportation costs, and safety risks associated with daily commutes. The parents urge authorities to consider boarding options for those placed in distant schools.

While some parents who initially sought changes for their children in Category C and D schools have accepted the placements, they now request boarding accommodations for students placed in remote locations. The Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service, Michael Owusu Baafi, confirms a shift in the school placement process, with parents now accepting available Category C and D schools to meet the reporting deadline.

A dedicated queue has been established for these parents to expedite the process and reduce congestion. Baafi emphasizes that all resolved cases will be processed and reflected in the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) portal soon. GES officials assure parents that all qualified BECE graduates will be placed and encourage them to remain calm and cooperate with officials at resolution centers nationwide.
