Once a villain in Montreal, Chris Kreider joins Habs ahead of training camp

Montreal fans greeted Chris Kreider with boos as he skated onto the Bell Centre ice to begin his career with the Montreal Canadiens. The veteran forward signed a one-year contract worth up to US$5.4 million, including bonuses, with the Original Six franchise. Kreider's move to Montreal came after the Anaheim Ducks terminated his $6.5-million contract due to salary-cap crunch following a leaked offer sheet from the Canadiens.

The 6'3", 232-pound Kreider has been a power forward in the past, netting 22 goals and 28 assists in 75 games with Anaheim last season. He expressed his excitement about joining a team known for its fervent fanbase and strong cultural presence. Kreider's ties to the Canadiens include familiarity from his time in New York, connections to team officials, and a personal relationship with head coach Martin St. Louis.
