Northern Air Cargo names permanent CEO

Alaska-based Northern Air Cargo (NAC) has appointed Mark Lester as its permanent president and CEO, effective September 21, replacing interim President Dave Karp. Lester, who spent the past 18 months as head of aerospace strategy at Merrick & Co., previously led Alaska Aerospace Corp. and Doss Aviation. He will bring his experience in safety-critical, regulated operations, having successfully led complex organizations through periods of transformation and growth.

NAC's parent company, Saltchuk Aviation, praised Lester's commitment to Alaska communities, as the company looks to expand and deepen its services. Karp stepped down from his role following a period of financial losses and a decision to focus on intra-island Hawaii and Alaska service. NAC currently operates three freighters in Alaska, with one 737-400, two 737-800s, and one 737-300 leased to another carrier.

The airline focuses on Seattle, a major transfer point for Alaskan exports, and supplies for Alaskan communities.
