Nitin Gadkari has a new plan for Mumbai traffic

Mumbai's traffic woes are a well-known issue, with millions of residents facing long commutes and congested roads daily. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari experienced this firsthand when he got stuck in heavy traffic, adding an hour to his journey from Worli to an event in Mumbai. Reflecting on his time as Maharashtra's Public Works Minister between 1995 and 2000, Gadkari mentioned that he oversaw the construction of 55 flyovers, the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, and the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

However, he acknowledged that the infrastructure technology from that era could not keep up with today's increased traffic volumes. Gadkari suggested replacing older flyovers with modern constructions using advanced technologies, potentially allowing more road capacity within limited urban spaces. He also proposed a Rs 50,000 crore infrastructure plan in Pune, emphasizing the need for innovative solutions to address growing urban mobility challenges in densely populated cities like Mumbai.
