New investigation agency chief nominee says supports criminal justice system reform

Kim stated that he is "deeply reflecting" on the fact that the prosecution service he once belonged to has lost public trust and may ultimately be dismantled. He actively supports the core principle of criminal justice reform, which calls for separating investigations from indictments.

Some lawmakers from the ruling Democratic Party and the minor opposition Rebuilding Korea Party have criticized Kim's nomination, alleging that he once opposed stripping the prosecution of its investigative powers while serving as a prosecutor. Kim clarified that his earlier stance was driven by a desire to protect victims' rights, not to defend the prosecution's investigative powers.
