New Brunswick aiming to attract $30 billion in investment at Toronto summit

The New Brunswick government is aiming to attract $30 billion in investment at a major conference in Toronto this week. Premier Susan Holt is among several provincial leaders attending the Canada Investment Summit to promote eight separate projects. The government plans to showcase opportunities in critical minerals, advanced materials, energy, digital infrastructure, and transportation.

Key projects on the table include a new nuclear development, a proposed data center, and the Sisson Mine project, all of which together represent over $30 billion in potential capital investment. While the projects could generate growth in the long term, political science professor Herb Emery from the University of New Brunswick remains skeptical that the summit will significantly boost the province's economy.

He believes the projects could contribute to new contracts and commitments in the future, but acknowledges that the economic boost won't be immediate and may not be enough to address the province's budget deficits.
