NDLEA warns medicine dealers against sale of controlled drugs in Abia

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has issued a stern warning to medicine dealers in Abia State, urging them to refrain from distributing controlled medicines, psychotropic substances and other illicit drugs to the public. During a meeting with leaders of the National Association of Patent and Proprietary Medicine Dealers (NAPPMED), NDLEA Commander CN Leonard Nnadim emphasized the crucial role these dealers play in the healthcare and drug-control system.

Their businesses place them in direct contact with medicines and substances vulnerable to abuse or diversion for non-medical purposes. Nnadim urged NAPPMED leaders to strictly adhere to laws governing the sale and distribution of medicines, especially those with psychoactive and addictive properties. He cautioned against the indiscriminate sale of controlled medicines to individuals without valid prescriptions or for illicit purposes.

Nnadim stressed that combating drug abuse demands collaboration between law enforcement agencies, healthcare professionals, medicine dealers and other stakeholders. He called on NAPPMED to educate its members about the dangers of drug misuse and promote responsible practices within their communities. Nnadim also highlighted the importance of intelligence sharing between NAPPMED and NDLEA, urging NAPPMED leaders to promptly report suspicious activities and individuals involved in illicit drug dealings.

NAPPMED representatives pledged their support to the NDLEA's efforts and promised to educate their members.
