NAZA: Israeli minister to seek revocation of filmmakers’ citizenship for ‘treason’

Israeli Culture Minister Miki Zohar has announced plans to revoke the citizenship of filmmakers Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor for their documentary "NAZA," which exposes a "system of killing" of Palestinian civilians in Gaza during Israel's conflict. The film, which won the Special Jury Prize at the Venice International Film Festival, has sparked outrage in Israel.

Zohar called the documentary "despicable" and accused the filmmakers of "betrayal" for their willingness to harm their homeland. Abraham and Szor's film features interviews with 24 Israeli military and intelligence insiders who describe the use of AI systems to identify targets and carry out remote bombings, often knowing that many civilians would be killed.

One insider stated that in one instance, up to 500 civilians were approved to be killed to eliminate a single high-value Hamas member. The filmmakers' claims have been rejected by the Israeli army, which stated that the identities of the interviewees could not be verified. The backlash against the film has been widespread, with Israeli politicians and members of far-right groups accusing Abraham and Szor of being "haters of Israel" and labeling the movie an "appalling" portrayal of Israeli soldiers committing genocide.
