Mother of fallen Toronto police officer Marc Pinizzotto turns son’s legacy into a mission for change

Marc Pinizzotto would have celebrated his 44th birthday on September 24th. His mother, Linda, typically marks the occasion with an Italian ice cream cake, a cherished family tradition. On June 11, however, the Toronto Police officer's life was tragically cut short while on duty with the Emergency Task Force. His mother is now channeling her grief into preserving Marc's memory through a foundation bearing his name and advocating for change.

The foundation will focus on supporting young people through sports, music, and the arts, activities that Marc was passionate about. He coached children, loved music, and embraced the arts, as his mother often recalled. Oakville Mayor Rob Burton has named the Red Arena at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex in his honor, a tribute that Linda finds "incredible."

Other tributes, including an event at the Living Arts Centre and a song by Juno Award-winning singer Cathy Young, are planned in the coming months. Perhaps most significantly, a park in Mississauga, where Marc grew up, now bears his name. Yet, Linda's primary goal is to ensure that Marc's death sparks conversations about public safety, embodied by the term "P3," a hockey reference from his family's past.

Linda aims for P3 to unite the public, police, and politicians in discussions about public safety and the changes needed. This is part of a promise Linda made to her son: to remember him not just for his untimely death but also for the life he lived, ensuring his legacy continues to benefit others.
