Mid-Autumn Festival: Inaugural Int’l Lantern Spectacular opens Thurs in Victoria Park

The inaugural International Lantern Spectacular is set to debut in Victoria Park, Causeway Bay on September 17, 2026, marking the beginning of the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations. Organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), the free event will run until September 27. The centerpiece of the spectacle will be an impressive "Shadowlight" lantern, an eight-meter tall banyan tree artwork crafted by master artisans from Nanjing.

Visitors can explore the "World Lantern Boulevard" near the model boat pool, which will feature lanterns from 20 countries. Thematic decorations and a mooncake sales booth will also be present as Hong Kong residents prepare for the annual lantern festival. The festivities will continue at Tsim Sha Tsui's Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza, where a lantern display will illuminate the area nightly from 6:30pm until October 11.

In addition to Victoria Park, the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance will take place between September 24 and 26 in Tai Hang, a centuries-old tradition featuring a 67-meter dragon adorned with 12,000 incense sticks. From September 25, an 18-meter LED version of the fire dragon will dance through Lee Tung Avenue, a shopping and dining thoroughfare dressed with 800 traditional red lanterns.

Lastly, fire dragon dances will occur in Pok Fu Lam village and Aberdeen throughout the Mid-Autumn Festival festivities. To celebrate the occasion, MTR Light Rail passengers will enjoy free fares on September 25 as part of a collaboration between Huatai International and the Strive and Rise Programme.
