Meta restricts access in India to viral AI video of Keralam CM dancing with KSEB officials

On Monday, Meta restricted access to a viral AI-generated video in India, showing Keralam Chief Minister V D Satheesan dancing with officials from the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB). The video, posted on the Instagram page aikavala on Thursday, had amassed 1.78 crore views by Sunday. Satheesan recently referred to the video at an event organized by the Kerala High Court, claiming he could dance better than Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay.

The video, created using artificial intelligence, depicted Satheesan dancing with KSEB officials. The creators of the video announced on Sunday that Meta had complied with a legal request from the Government of India, restricting access to the content within India. Abhijith, the operator of the aikavala page, stated they were unsure of the reason behind the restriction, but it was unlikely to be due to a direct objection from the Chief Minister.
