Masengeli: We will arrest those behind Nembure violence and their sponsors

Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli has declared that those responsible for the Nembure violence and their alleged sponsors will face arrest. Addressing an event in Nairobi on Monday, September 14, 2026, Masengeli stated that the police intend to follow through with the investigation until all culprits are apprehended.

The Nembure chaos occurred on Saturday, September 12, 2026, leading to vehicle damage, two deaths, and disruption of a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) delegates' meeting. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is actively pursuing the investigation, having made a second arrest on Monday, September 14, 2026, following a similar arrest the previous day.

The latest arrest was made in Kithimu area of Embu town during a joint operation by detectives from the DCI Headquarters Operations Support Team (OAT) and the Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Branch (CRIB). This arrest follows the first earlier in the day, as the DCI intensifies efforts to identify and apprehend additional suspects involved in the unrest.

The violence disrupted the UDA delegates' meeting, resulting in property damage to over five vehicles. The DCI remains committed to pursuing justice for the criminal acts committed during the unrest, with detectives now launching investigations in Embu to uncover and apprehend those responsible.
