M.anifest takes swipe at toxic fan culture amid Sarkodie-Stonebwoy drama

Rapper M.anifest has questioned the rise of toxic fan culture within Ghana's music industry, suggesting that extreme fan rivalries are creating more division than value. His remarks come as the ongoing dispute between Sarkodie and Stonebwoy has provoked strong reactions from fans and fellow musicians. In a post on the social media platform X, M.anifest expressed his concern over why music enthusiasts cannot appreciate rivalries without escalating them into outright animosity.

"Stan culture is a net minus for the culture. The division it creates isn't adding up. Rivalries are cool, but is it really so difficult to remove toxic hate from the equation?" he questioned. The rapper further dismissed the notion that Ghana's creative industry needs "unity" at all costs. Instead, he argued for cooperation, ethical behavior, quality control, knowledge of the business and adherence to best practices.

"We DON'T need unity in our music/creative scene. Unity is a MYTH and a banner often waved by selfish people when they want everyone to rally behind them," he stated. This sentiment is particularly pertinent given Stonebwoy's recent criticism of Sarkodie, with the latter accusing the former of hypocrisy. Stonebwoy's stance seemed to stem from the same underlying question M.anifest had previously raised - whether artists should merely rally around the idea of unity or be permitted to address behavior they deem inappropriate.

The situation has since extended to include Shatta Wale, who joined the debate on TikTok Live, portraying himself as a "lawyer" and defending Sarkodie while urging Stonebwoy to apologize. This has resulted in a divided online fanbase, with supporters of each artiste defending their respective sides, reigniting past comparisons between Sarkodie, Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale.
