Louisville adds fifth-year forward LJ Wells to the basketball roster for this season

Louisville coach Pat Kelsey announced on Monday that the Cardinals have added fifth-year forward LJ Wells to the basketball roster for the upcoming season. Wells will be available this season for the team.

Kelsey shared that he has a personal connection to Wells, as he is friends with Northern Kentucky coach Darrin Horn. Horn praised Wells' character, work ethic, and coachability. Wells played a significant role at Northern Kentucky, starting 33 games as a senior and averaging 15 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.

The Cardinals also welcomed guard Seth Trimble, who transferred from North Carolina by utilizing a recent preliminary injunction that grants student-athletes who graduated from high school in 2022 a fifth season of eligibility. Both Wells and Trimble are among a group of athletes who sought the right to play a fifth season, taking their case to a Kentucky county court.

Wells, a 6-foot-8, 220-pound forward, showcased his skills during the Horizon League tournament in March. He scored an average of 22.3 points and grabbed 8.7 rebounds over three tournament games. As a junior, Wells started 16 of 32 games, improved to 27 of 33 as a sophomore, and played in 18 games as a freshman.
