Lere, Adeyanju, Daddy Freeze speak as Peter Obi’s wife’s N200m handbag spark debate

A luxury handbag, reportedly a Hermès Kelly 35 in Malachite, carried by Peter Obi's wife, Margaret, during a recent event has ignited controversy on social media. Commentators estimate the handbag's price to be around N237 million, based on its listed price of £131,938.81 on the Hermès website. This revelation has sparked a debate, with some Nigerians criticizing Margaret for her extravagant choice, while others argue that she has the right to purchase whatever she can afford.

Media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Lere Olayinka, joined the discourse, accusing Peter Obi of portraying himself as a prudent individual while his family flaunts luxury. He stated, "Your wife using a bag that would take N1,000 from 250,000 Nigerians to buy is a fraud." Meanwhile, popular media personality, Daddy Freeze, also expressed his opinion, stating that he had no issue with Margaret carrying a luxury handbag, but criticized Peter Obi's repeated claims of owning only one shoe and one wristwatch, alleging that his lifestyle does not align with his projected image of extreme modesty.

Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju defended Margaret, stating that there is nothing wrong with her carrying the handbag, but criticized the Obis for deceiving the public about their financial practices. He urged Peter Obi to be honest and stop the drama and acting.
