Lee, ADB chief agree to boost cooperation on critical minerals, AI

President Lee Jae Myung and Asian Development Bank (ADB) chief Masato Kanda met on September 14 in Seoul to discuss enhancing cooperation on critical minerals and artificial intelligence (AI), according to the presidential office. During the meeting at Cheong Wa Dae, Lee proposed expanding collaboration between South Korea and the ADB to stabilize the supply chain of critical minerals in Central Asia, highlighting the region's potential due to its abundant natural resources and geographical benefits.

Kanda expressed optimism about joint efforts, stating that bolstering critical mineral supply chains is a top priority for the ADB. In terms of AI, Lee detailed the South Korean government's AI initiatives, such as the "AI for all" project, which aims to create an inclusive "AI-basic society" accessible to people regardless of their income, age, or digital literacy.

Lee emphasized the potential for significant achievements by combining South Korea's AI expertise with the ADB's development experience. Additionally, the two sides agreed to explore utilizing South Korean technology and experience in ADB projects like the ASEAN Power Grid initiative.
