Lanterns Kills [Spoiler] And [Spoiler] Gives Up The Ring In Epic Episode 5 — Read Recap

Episode 5 of Lanterns marks the end of three complicated love stories and the breaking point for the central heroes. Zoe and Will, Zoe and John, and John and Hal all come to an end in this episode. The episode begins with a flashback to 2007, where Kerry is running from two thugs who are trying to apprehend her. She reveals to the thugs that her father was a snitch, and they plan to kill her and take her pinky finger as proof.

Zoe, who has been watching the situation unfold, arrives and saves Kerry from the thugs. She offers to give Kerry a new life in exchange for her pinky finger, and Kerry accepts. Later in the episode, John is trapped in a crashed car, and Hal is gloating outside. The Lantern tells John that John was never going to replace him and that his plan is for Anton's group and Macon's militia to keep each other occupied while he goes after Zoe.

John is then trapped as his car catches fire. Zoe appears and watches as the car burns, leaving John in a state of shock. The episode then cuts to Hal, who has found Kerry and is yelling at her about their previous encounter. She explains to him that she owes Zoe for what she gave her, which is a miracle. Hal refuses to leave Kerry alone, confident that Zoe will destroy the town to get to him.

In the hospital, John wakes up and learns that Zoe is by his side. She reveals to him that she is a Manhunter, created to enforce justice, but every Manhunter except Zoe was destroyed because they were deemed too brutal. Zoe explains that her protection has a price, which is for John to ensure Hal's death. She places a drop of her blood in John's eye and tosses him into a scanner that helps heal his body.

John is completely healed, and Zoe tells him that she was drawn to him because he sees her for who she is. Meanwhile, Will calls to let Zoe know that Anton is coming for him. In Manhunter language, they discuss how Will is ready to make the ultimate sacrifice for Zoe. Will stabs and kills Macon, taking his heart to ensure that it is authentic.

Anton sees Hal standing outside a cafe, claiming that Zoe's helicopter has landed, and Hal handcuffs Zoe to the helicopter. However, before she can leave, red beams from the sky start to blow up the town, and Hal cannot take any more damage. Hal manages to take out one of Zoe's guards and steals his protective glasses, allowing him to see through the chaos.
