Lampang singer criticised for imitating sex scandal video of Ayutthaya ex-abbot

A Lampang house singer has faced criticism for imitating a sex scandal video involving a former abbot in Ayutthaya. The Lampang Provincial Buddhism Office lodged a complaint against an entertainment venue after the performer, dressed as a monk, created a video mocking the scandal. The video, posted on the venue's Facebook page on September 12, depicted the singer in a yellow monk's robe with a large amulet shaped like a penis, mimicking scenes from the sexual video.

The former abbot, who had recently been arrested for alleged embezzlement of over 92 million baht and for violating Buddhist practices with a sexual relationship, was the subject of the scandal. The Lampang Provincial Buddhism Office's director, Kanuengkit Promnuchanon, condemned the performance as extremely inappropriate and filed a complaint against the venue's owner.

He urged the public not to exploit Buddhism further in connection with the scandal, emphasizing that focus should be on the Dhamma and Buddhist doctrine rather than individuals. Another video showing a similar performance at a different location in Lampang's Koh Ka district has also surfaced on social media, though there is no confirmation if the Buddhism office has addressed this case.
