KI: Chinas Geheimdienstchef warnt vor KI-Risiken

Beijing - China's top intelligence official has issued one of the most detailed warnings from the country regarding the dangers of artificial intelligence (AI). Rapid advancements in the technology could threaten China's political stability and critical infrastructure, wrote Chinese State Security Minister Chen Yixin in a published article on Sunday in the official magazine China Cyberspace.

Chen warned that the misuse of AI by adversaries could "directly threaten China's political, institutional, and ideological security." He also highlighted AI's growing abilities to identify vulnerabilities in systems and develop exploit software. This article represents one of the most explicit assessments of the risks China perceives from AI, appearing as major US technology firms called for a slower pace of development.

However, no direct link between the two is suggested. The piece did not respond to calls from Anthropic and OpenAI, which urged a slowdown in the development of advanced AI models. Anthropic co-founder Dario Amodei argued on Saturday in a blog post that AI's capabilities were advancing faster than protective measures, suggesting stronger coordination between companies, the US, and other democracies.

Chen emphasized the importance of security in his article but viewed the risks primarily through the lenses of political control, technological sovereignty, foreign threats, and strategic competition.
