JUST IN: Body of missing runner Elizabeth ‘Tsontso’ Moselakgomo identified

The body of 38-year-old Elizabeth "Tsontso" Moselakgomo was positively identified on Monday at the Germiston mortuary by her family, bringing an end to days of frantic searching following her disappearance. The South African Police Service (Saps) assured the family of their deepest sympathies in a time of immense pain. Lieutenant General Dimpane conveyed the Saps' unwavering dedication to uncovering the truth behind Elizabeth's fate and holding those responsible accountable.

This finding comes on the heels of five similar incidents in and around Kempton Park over the past two months, where women were discovered partially clothed or naked with visible injuries. Although police have not officially linked these cases, the striking similarities prompted authorities to establish a dedicated, multidisciplinary task force and caution women to be vigilant.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda MatheMathe affirmed confidence in the assigned team, yet emphasized the immense work ahead, stating that evidence will guide their investigations.

In response to these events, the acting national commissioner directed a specialized, multidisciplinary task team comprising seasoned detectives and specialized policing resources. This team is working tirelessly around the clock to unravel the circumstances surrounding each death, scrutinize forensic evidence, identify potential connections across the cases, and relentlessly pursue all available leads.

Lieutenant General Dimpane reiterated the Saps' unwavering commitment to protecting women and combating gender-based violence, vowing to pursue any evidence linking individuals to these crimes with relentless determination. One suspect has already been arrested in connection with the discovery of the first victim's body in July, remaining in custody as authorities continue their investigation.
