Jayden Daniels Doesn't Hold Back on Stefon Diggs' Costly Penalty

The Washington Commanders suffered a costly penalty during their season-opening loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Stefon Diggs, who had just scored his first touchdown for the Commanders late in the fourth quarter, celebrated by jumping to wrap himself around the goalpost. This unsportsmanlike conduct penalty moved the two-point conversion attempt back and ultimately led to the Commanders settling for an extra point, rather than the two-point try they had planned.

Washington's head coach Dan Quinn revealed that he would have opted for the two-point conversion if not for the penalty. When asked about the penalty's impact, Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels was direct in his response. Quoting Pro Football Talk's Josh Alper, Daniels said, "You just gotta be smarter. We gotta know situations, situational football.

That's on me for not reiterating that in the huddle. We just gotta be smart. There's a time and place for everything." Diggs demonstrated accountability following the game by taking full responsibility. Washington also had one more chance to tie the game late in the fourth quarter, but they failed their two-point attempt, ultimately losing the match 24-22 at Lincoln Financial Field.

It's evident that this lapse in judgment played a role in the outcome, but it was not the only contributing factor.
