Jahmyr Gibbs had career-high 29 carries, and Dan Campbell says he can do even more

On Sunday, Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs recorded a career-high 29 carries, accumulating 156 yards and tallying two touchdowns. The heavyweight workload was not enough to deter Lions coach Dan Campbell, who praised Gibbs' performance during the game. "I thought it was a very promising Week 1," Campbell stated. "Certainly, we know what Gibbs is, what he's capable of, and he's still not there yet.

And I mean that in a good way." Gibbs' longest run of the day was a stellar 21 yards, but Campbell believes he could achieve much longer runs if given the opportunity. "We were this close to breaking three or four more of these, breaking them wide open," Campbell added. "A shoestring away, just a little longer block at the second level."

Despite aiming for a staggering 29 carries per game for an entire season, Campbell is not fixated on breaking records and is content with feeding Gibbs the ball. "Do I want to set records with how many carries? No, that's not something I want to do," Campbell said. "But when you look at a guy and you think he's in good shape, he had a really good camp, he's in the best shape I've seen since I've been here."

With the Lions committing to a heavy workload for Gibbs, it's clear that Campbell sees immense potential in the young running back.
