Islanders will get the full effect of Peter DeBoer in his first camp as their coach

WESTBURY, N.Y. — When Peter DeBoer became the coach of the New York Islanders towards the conclusion of last season, his coaching tenure of four games was insufficient to secure a playoff spot. Despite this setback, the Islanders are set to experience the full impact of DeBoer's coaching methods when their training camp commences later this week.

Matthew Schaefer, the reigning rookie of the year, Bo Horvat, the new captain, and their teammates will have a comprehensive introduction to DeBoer's coaching style. Horvat expressed confidence in DeBoer's ability to provide a clear roadmap for the team's success, stating that there would be no ambiguity about what needs to be accomplished. DeBoer himself emphasized the importance of establishing a strong foundation and identifying the team's identity for the upcoming season.

DeBoer, with 17 years of NHL coaching experience, aims to mold the Islanders in his own image during this inaugural camp. DeBoer's coaching history speaks for itself, as he has guided teams to the Stanley Cup Final with both the New Jersey Devils and San Jose Sharks, as well as the conference finals with the Vegas Golden Knights and Dallas Stars.
