Indonesia Finalizes Squad for 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian national team head coach John Herdman has announced that he is finalizing the squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup. The tournament, which will run from September 24 to October 5, will see Indonesia host Division 1 matches at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta and Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung Regency.

Herdman stated that they are very close to announcing the squad, as reported by ANTARA.News of Indonesian national team captain Jay Idzes' potential injury surfaced on Sunday night, or Monday in Indonesia time. Idzes suffered an issue with his left thigh during Sassuolo's 3-2 victory over Juventus in the Italian league and was substituted in the 81st minute.

This news added to the challenges Herdman faced in finalizing the squad, as he revealed that the team is still assessing the situation regarding two or three players due to recent injuries.Herdman confirmed that Indonesia will not be able to field three players based overseas for the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup due to injuries. These players include Adrian Wibowo, Miliano Jonathans, and Mees Hilgers.

Additionally, Marselino Ferdinan, who underwent knee surgery in Spain last month, is also likely to miss out. Despite these obstacles, Herdman expressed that they share a single vision heading into the tournament: to win the FIFA ASEAN Cup. He emphasized that this is their mission and a way to honor the ambitions of the organization that has given them this opportunity.
