Indian pacer fined 10% after winning Women's Asia Cup 2026

Dubai: Indian fast bowler Kranti Gaud has been penalized 10% of her match fee due to a breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the Women’s Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka. The infraction occurred in Sri Lanka's opening over, when Gaud dismissed opener Imesha Dulani and subsequently made a gesture towards the team's dugout. The Indian pacer admitted to the violation and accepted the punishment proposed by the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, thereby bypassing the need for a formal hearing.

This marks her first offense within a 24-month timeframe, resulting in one demerit point added to her disciplinary record. The charge was levied by on-field umpires Saleema Imtiaz and Shathira Jakir Jesy, with support from third umpire Rokeya Sultana and fourth umpire Humaira Farah. For level 1 breaches, penalties can range from an official reprimand to a fine of up to 50% of the player's match fee, coupled with one or two demerit points.

Gaud's fine was levied following India's record eighth victory in the Asia Cup, claiming a 72-run win over Sri Lanka. Despite her disciplinary action, Gaud conceded 8 runs while taking just one wicket in the match. Meanwhile, Pakistan received a five-percent fine for slow over-rates in their semifinal loss to Sri Lanka, with captain Fatima Sana acknowledging the sanction imposed by match referee G.S. Lakshmi. Both teams continue the Asia Cup with their respective fines in tow.
