Inaugural Architecture Award launched

Doha, Qatar witnessed the launch of the Qatar Architecture Award 2026 by the Qatar Society of Engineers. This initiative aims to foster architectural excellence and innovation, empower local talent, and introduce sustainable solutions for Qatari families. The inaugural edition highlights the design of a residential villa, incorporating modern requirements, State building regulations, and practical, feasible designs.

The competition is divided into two categories: one for individual architects, engineers, and designers who are Qatari nationals or residents, and the other for officially licensed and accredited Qatari architectural consulting firms. Eng. Amna Mohammed Al Naama, the Chairperson of the Qatar Society of Engineers, emphasized the Society's dedication to supporting initiatives that enhance Qatar's urban and development landscape.

The award seeks innovative and practical architectural and engineering solutions that align with modern building requirements, balancing Qatar's architectural identity, sustainability standards, and economic efficiency. Designs must also respect the QR1.2m ceiling of the government housing loan. A total of QR180,000 in prize money will be awarded to the winners, with outstanding entries featured during Qatari Engineers Day on January 25.

Eng. Mubarak Mahboob Al Nuaimi, Director of Licensing and Training Affairs at the Real Estate Regulatory Authority - Aqarat, highlighted the growing interest in developing Qatar's architectural and urban landscape, promoting a culture of creativity and innovation in the sector. He described the Qatar Architecture Award as a platform celebrating architectural and engineering excellence, showcasing talent and expertise, and encouraging designs that combine authenticity, innovation, and sustainability.
