How police helped woman secure N300,000 surgery debt waiver – Ogun CP

The Ogun State Police Command has assisted a grieving woman in obtaining a waiver for her outstanding N300,000 medical debt following the tragic loss of her infant child. Precious Mathew, from Ogooluwa near Owode Market, approached the Owode-Yewa Police Division after learning of the debt she owed after a C-section procedure at Longe Hospital Medical Centre. This information was shared in a statement by the Command's Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, on Monday.

Mathew had undergone a C-section on June 30, 2026, but her baby did not survive the operation. She initially paid N100,000 of the total N400,000 bill, leaving N300,000 unpaid. The case was brought to the attention of the Ogun State Police Commissioner, CP Olubode Bode Ojajuni, who intervened on her behalf, requesting understanding and compassion from the medical staff.

Commissioner Ojajuni contacted Dr. Babanki Samuel, the medical practitioner involved, who decided to waive the entire N300,000 bill in response to the situation. The police stated that Dr. Samuel's decision was driven by the circumstances of the case and his compassionate nature. "Moved by the circumstances and in a remarkable display of compassion, the doctor voluntarily forgave the entire outstanding balance of N300,000, allowing the woman to leave without the burden of further payment," the police reported.

The command emphasized the value of dialogue and empathy in resolving public disputes, noting that this approach led to a peaceful resolution without confrontation. They also highlighted the importance of the police in facilitating such peaceful outcomes. CP Ojajuni expressed appreciation for Dr. Samuel's humanity and generosity, acknowledging that the doctor's act of kindness alleviated a significant financial burden for the bereaved mother at a challenging time.
