Gov’t must prioritise local refineries for sustainable fuel pricing – COPEC urges

The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) has urged the government to prioritize local refineries as a more sustainable approach to managing fuel prices in Ghana. Speaking on Adom FM's Dwaso Nsem, COPEC Executive Secretary Duncan Amoah emphasized that while the supply of crude oil to local refineries is a positive step, additional deliberate efforts are required to ensure the arrangement benefits consumers.

Amoah stressed that the government must collaborate closely with refineries to ensure the crude supplied translates into more affordable products in the market. He recommended supporting local refineries to operate profitably while maintaining reasonable fuel prices for consumers. COPEC argues that Ghana should not solely rely on foreign sources for refined petroleum products, citing growing geopolitical risks that could disrupt global fuel supplies.

The organization called for a clear strategy that combines crude supply with proper oversight, aiming to deliver both energy security and price stability.
