Girls' Hostel Complaints Trigger Action; Warden Removed, Husband Loses Guest Teacher Job In MP's Dhar

Dhar in Madhya Pradesh has taken swift action after complaints of harassment and management issues at Kasturba Gandhi Girls Hostel. Senior secondary teacher Anita Bhide, who was the hostel warden, has been immediately removed from her position and her government accommodation vacated. Her husband, Sardar Singh Piplaj, a guest teacher, has also lost his job due to his involvement in the matter. Primary school teacher Leela Oharia has been appointed as the acting superintendent until permanent arrangements are made.

The incident sparked when hostel girls protested on the streets, expressing their concerns about the living conditions. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav received information about the situation and ordered disciplinary action against those responsible, emphasizing the importance of safety, mental well-being, and adequate infrastructure for girls staying in government hostels.

Immediately following the complaints, the district administration carried out a thorough inspection of the hostel, speaking directly with the girls to gather their feedback on food, security, and other arrangements.

Sources reported conflicting accounts of the warden's behavior, with some girls alleging she ordered them to perform household chores while others claimed no issues existed. An earlier dispute between the warden and a principal had also been noted, with a complaint against the principal reportedly not acted upon. A team had visited the hostel four days prior, but the girls did not raise complaints during that inspection.

The current action targets ensuring the safety, dignity, and welfare of the hostel's students, as directed by the Chief Minister, who considers these issues top priorities.
