General : 500 Green Sea Turtle Hatchlings Released In Kertih

In Terengganu, 500 newly hatched green sea turtles, each measuring 2.5cm, were released into the ocean at the Ma Daerah Turtle Sanctuary Centre today. This conservation effort was organized by the Terengganu Girl Guides Association of Malaysia as part of the 2026 Sustainable Environment Programme. Regent Tengku Muhammad Ismail Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin participated in the release, which took place around 6:30pm. Tengku Puteri Daulath Raja Tengku Fatimatuz Zahra, Tengku Muhammad Ismail's sister, also attended.

The sanctuary incubated the hatchlings, and the release aimed to bolster the species' survival and heighten public awareness about the importance of turtle conservation in the state. Earlier, Tengku Muhammad Ismail called on the public to contribute to environmental protection and marine ecosystem preservation, emphasizing that these efforts are crucial in ensuring the sustainability of natural resources for future generations.

He highlighted the increasing threats to the environment and marine life, such as pollution, littering, and uncontrolled human activities, which endanger fish, turtles, and coral reefs.

Tengku Muhammad Ismail stressed that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility, not solely the government's or specific organizations'. He noted that while individual actions might seem insignificant, when undertaken by millions of people, their collective impact can be substantial.
