Gachagua says opposition has ‘locked’ Nairobi ahead of 2027

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stated that the opposition has gained significant political influence in Nairobi in preparation for the 2027 General Election. Gachagua highlighted the growing support for Linda Mwananchi leaders Edwin Sifuna and Babu Owino, as evidenced by rallies held in the city on Sunday. Thousands of residents participated in the processions, chanting for a one-term presidency.

Particularly impressive was the rally where Sifuna, Owino, James Orengo, and other young leaders marched through Eastlands, drawing massive crowds that chanted "One Term" all the way to Jacaranda. Gachagua described this mobilization as a strong demonstration of the opposition's presence in Nairobi, which he identified as a pivotal battleground with approximately 2.7 million registered voters.

He confidently asserted that the opposition could secure up to 2.5 million votes in the capital during the 2027 elections, stating, "Nairobi is locked." Gachagua further claimed that only William Ruto, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) would fail to secure a single seat in Nairobi, effectively controlling the city's political landscape.
