Fortuin pleased with ‘complete performance’ by Proteas after bouncing back from defeat

Captain Bjorn Fortuin expressed satisfaction with the Proteas' performance after bouncing back from an initial loss during their tour of Namibia. The South African team, missing several first-choice players who were being rested, suffered an 18-run defeat to the hosts in their opening match of a T20 International tri-series in Windhoek.

However, the Proteas quickly recovered, going on to secure victories in all of their remaining four matches, including the final against Zimbabwe. They subsequently enjoyed an unbeaten run in a three-match ODI series against Namibia, clinching a 3-0 series win and showcasing their best form with a dominant nine-wicket triumph in their final match.

Fortuin attributed their improved performance to the momentum they generated during the T20 series, where players started hitting their stride both with the ball and the bat. He emphasized the importance of maintaining this momentum and focusing on their strengths while addressing areas that still needed improvement. Fortuin, who filled in for the regular Proteas captains Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma, acknowledged the pressure he felt but expressed his gratitude for being given the opportunity to lead the national side.

While several players delivered impressive performances throughout the T20 and ODI series, Fortuin played a crucial role, earning the Player of the Match award in the last game of the tour. He described leading the team as a privilege and a significant honor, stating that the team's success was the most important aspect. Looking ahead, the Proteas will face Australia in a three-match ODI home series starting next week, bolstered by the return of some experienced players.
