Ex-director faces 71 cheating charges over RM4.7m used car scam

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 14 — Former Buycar2u director Kee Cher Kian appeared in three Sessions Courts, charged with 71 counts of cheating businessman Wong Yoong Jed, according to prosecutors. The accusations stem from a used car scam where Kee allegedly deceived Wong into believing he had purchased non-existent vehicles, resulting in a financial loss of RM4.7 million, reported Bernama.

Kee, 34, pleaded not guilty to all charges before Judges Azrul Darus, Norma Ismail, and Muhammad Ilmami Ahmad. Among the alleged vehicles was the Toyota Alphard, Lexus RX200, and BMW X5. During the proceedings, Kee faced 26 charges in relation to the first court, RM1.69 million in losses, 30 charges in the second court for RM1.98 million, and 15 charges in the third court for RM1.02 million.

The alleged scam occurred between July 5, 2022, and August 3, 2022, at various bank branches in Kuala Lumpur, including Menara KL Sentral and Jalan Perak. Prosecutors Siti Suriatey Mohamed Yusoff and Eugenie Meredith Gilbert presented the case, while Kee was represented by lawyer J. Matthews. All three courts permitted Kee to be released on RM215,000 bail with one surety, and the requirement to surrender his passport until the case concludes. The next court hearing is scheduled for October 16.
