Dubai to get second Etihad Rail station as RTA puts public transport centre stage

Dubai is set to receive a second Etihad Rail station, according to a senior official from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The new station, to be located in Meydan, will connect to the forthcoming Dubai Metro Gold Line. The official, Abdul Muhsen Kalbat, revealed that Etihad Rail plans to construct at least one additional station in Dubai as part of their long-term strategy.

This upcoming station will enhance public transport options for commuters and integrate seamlessly with Dubai Metro, buses, and micromobility services such as cycling and walking. Kalbat emphasized the importance of integrating rail services with other modes of transportation to offer a superior passenger experience. The integration of Nol cards with Etihad Rail is already underway, aimed at providing a smoother transition between the two systems.

The RTA is also hosting the RailX Dubai International Rail Conference in May 2024, which Kalbat believes will attract significant investment from both regional and global sources. The conference, under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, will focus on fostering partnerships with firms from the East and West, with a particular emphasis on China.

Despite regional challenges impacting supply chains, the RTA remains steadfast in adhering to its rail master plan timelines, ensuring that projects are completed on schedule.
