DJs Drop Off Amsterdam Dance Event Over Shlømo Booking, ADE Cuts Ties With Promoters

In February, French DJ Shlømo, whose real name is Shaun Baron-Carvais, faced accusations of sexual assault and misconduct. He denied the allegations and was listed among several hard techno DJs accused of misconduct, leading to their removal from partnerships and events, including Verknipt, World Club Dome, and Airbeat On. On June 5, METOODJS filed a formal complaint against Baron-Carvais with the Paris Judicial Court, alleging rape, psychological violence, and death threats.

Amsterdam newspaper Het Parool reported that Inès Davau, representing the alleged victim, confirmed a criminal investigation is underway.

Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) announced an event on Oct. 21 at warehouse club Panama featuring Shlømo as a headliner. However, several DJs, including Xamuel, Within, and Dimay, announced they would withdraw from ADE due to Shlømo's involvement. ADE has now decided to cut ties with promoters Komplott and Overgave, who were determined to keep Shlømo as a headliner.

The event organizers' stance conflicts with ADE's values and is insensitive to the nurturing of the electronic music scene, nightlife, and its communities. Despite ADE being a decentralized festival, Komplott and Overgave can still host the event independently, but ADE has revoked its official affiliation with the event. The event was cancelled on Sept. 13, and there is now a different lineup featuring other DJs.
