Crash survivor (4) wakes up from coma, asks for mother who died in collision

Nearly two weeks following a catastrophic crash that took the lives of Boksburg family's young mother, Natalia Cook, and her 18-month-old son, Matthew, their relatives are still awaiting answers. The family's daughter, Liora, aged four, is still hospitalized and recovering from her injuries. She sustained broken bones and was recently brought out of a coma. However, Liora continues to ask for her deceased mother, unaware that Natalia perished in the accident.

Marcel Cook, 27, the husband of Natalia, suffered severe brain injuries and remains in critical condition at Alberton Hospital. The family learned about the crash the following day, when a friend alerted them about the incident. On Sunday, the family had spent time together enjoying a lunch before Natalia, Marcel, and their children departed for home.

Natalia's sister-in-law, Katheeja Chetty, shared that Liora's recovery has provided some hope for the family. However, the young girl continues to seek after her mother. It was advised not to disclose this information to Liora yet. Marcel's condition remains critical, and the family is eagerly awaiting doctors' instructions on the next steps for his recovery. As per Chetty, Liora is anticipated to stay in the hospital for at least another two weeks.

The family is experiencing immense pain witnessing Liora repeatedly pleading for her mother. Chetty expressed their heartbreak as they visit Liora daily, seeing her cry out for her mother. Their concern extends to Marcel and Liora, while they are also frustrated by the lack of information regarding the investigation. They were denied the arrest of the alleged perpetrator and have yet to receive any substantial updates from the police.

Chetty revealed that their husband declined to visit the police station for inquiries, as they were informed the responsible party had come to provide a statement.

The family is currently grappling with their grief and frustration, seeking solace in counseling sessions, especially following Liora's awakening from her coma. They have been hoping for the arrest of the person responsible, emphasizing their need for justice to prevail.
