Cowboys LB Facing NFL Punishment After Jaxson Dart Incident

In the opening quarter of Sunday's game between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants, tension erupted early on. New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart faked a handoff to Cam Skattebo, darted past the snap, and ran for a first down. Quarterback Dart then jogged out of bounds, only to find himself being tackled by a Dallas Cowboys defender, sparking a side-line altercation between multiple players.

As the Giants' star quarterback was clearly out of bounds and posed no threat to continue running, Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown connected his left shoulder into Dart's body, sending the former first-round pick tumbling to the turf. Overshown was immediately penalized 15 yards for unnecessary roughness, and the Giants quickly capitalized on the play, scoring a 3-yard touchdown run by Cam Skattebo.

However, DeMarvion Overshown is facing a more serious consequence for his late hit on Jaxson Dart. The NFL has outlined a fine structure of $11,941 for a first offense late hit on a quarterback, rising to $17,911 for second offenses. If the league determines that Dart was a defenseless player, Overshown could face the harsher fine of $17,911. With the Cowboys linebacker already fined for his rough play, it seems highly likely that he will receive a significant penalty for his actions on the field.
