The US lawmakers have called for new regulations to govern AI systems following dire warnings from Anthropic researchers about the potential risks of rapidly advancing AI. President Trump dismissed calls to slow down AI development, asserting that the US remains the most sophisticated country in AI and wants to maintain that lead.

The US and China are set to discuss AI safety risks in mid-September, with the topic possibly being raised during a summit between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping on September 24th.
