Chiefs target pondering next move

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly considering the signing of Elias Mokwana, who is currently a free agent after leaving Tunisian giants Esperance. The 27-year-old South African attacker parted ways with Esperance this season and can choose any club he desires, even after the local transfer window in South Africa closes later this month.

Mokwana, who had a previous stint at Babina Noko in 2024, is currently weighing his options both domestically in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and abroad. According to sources close to the former Sekhukhune United player, he is taking his time before committing to any club. One source told Mgosi Squad, "Elias is relaxed because there are offers for him but, he wants to take his time before committing his future to anyone."

While Mokwana is interested in joining a club that can offer him regular playing time, the most important goal for him is to secure a spot in the national team. "He was unlucky not to go to the World Cup with Bafana [South Africa], but it's in the past now," another source added. "You can't rule out Chiefs at this stage but, he wants to play regularly again, and he will make his decision soon."

Prior to his time at Esperance, Mokwana played for Babina Noko from 2024. He had a loan spell in Saudi Pro League side Al-Hazem last season, with the intention of making the deal permanent, but Hazem decided not to exercise that option.
