Cardiff stadium emerges as option to save Joshua vs Fury

Cardiff's Principality Stadium has emerged as a potential venue to salvage the highly anticipated heavyweight bout between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, according to PUNCH Sports Extra. The Welsh stadium has reportedly agreed to meet the broadcast demands that have been holding up plans for the fight at Wembley Stadium. The clash, one of the most anticipated in British boxing history, had appeared at risk of collapsing again after both fighters insisted the fight must be held on British soil.

Attempts to move the contest to Madison Square Garden in New York faced resistance, while Netflix, hoping to attract a larger American audience, requires the fight to start early in the morning in the UK. Wembley Stadium's curfew rules make it unlikely to accommodate such a start time, but Cardiff is reportedly willing to host the event around 2am.

The Welsh venue, also known as the Millennium Stadium, features a retractable roof to protect against poor weather, making it suitable for a proposed November date. The contract for the fight includes a stipulation that it must be held in the UK, and while Eddie Hearn, Joshua's promoter, has suggested a renegotiation with a higher purse to cover taxes, both fighters remain adamant about staging the event on home soil.

Joshua, who recently returned to training at Ben Davison's Essex gym after his defeat to Daniel Dubois, has been awaiting a resolution to the contract dispute.
