Canadian manufacturing sales down 0.4 per cent at $78.7 billion in July

OTTAWA - Statistics Canada reported that Canadian manufacturing sales declined by 0.4 percent to $78.7 billion in July. This marked the first annual payment billed at $205.00 plus GST for a one-year subscription, which will automatically renew at $233.00 plus GST every 52 weeks. The agency noted that the decrease, following five consecutive monthly increases, occurred as sales dropped in eight of the 21 subsectors it monitors.

Sales of chemical products fell by 6.6 percent to $5.9 billion in July, while sales of resin, synthetic rubber, and artificial and synthetic fibres and filaments also decreased. Food manufacturing sales fell by 1.4 percent to $13.9 billion, with lower sales in the grain and oilseed milling industry group contributing to the decline.

The petroleum and coal products subsector saw a 1.9 percent increase in sales to $10.4 billion in July, driven by higher prices. In constant dollars, total manufacturing sales experienced a 1.4 percent decrease in July.
