Can Trump’s White House ballroom top China’s vast Great Hall of the People?

President Donald Trump's assertion that the newly constructed White House ballroom will surpass China's Great Hall of the People has drawn renewed attention to the Beijing landmark as Chinese President Xi Jinping prepares for an upcoming visit to the United States. During a Republican convention in Dallas, Trump remarked on the grandeur of the Great Hall of the People, stating that his team's new facility would exceed its size.

This claim comes after Trump himself visited the venue in May during his state visit to China, where he posed alongside President Xi Jinping in front of the impressive structure on social media, declaring that China should also have a ballroom like the one in the USA. The Great Hall of the People, situated on the western side of Tiananmen Square, has been a key venue for China's legislative, state, and diplomatic activities since its completion in 1959.

The massive complex, spanning over 170,000 square meters, includes a 10,000-seat auditorium, a banquet hall for 5,000 guests, and numerous meeting rooms. Its iconic marble columns, central dome, and ornate decorations have made it a symbol of China's political heritage. In contrast, the White House's new State Ballroom will offer approximately 8,360 square meters of space and accommodate up to 650 guests.
