Can Apple’s iOS 27, Siri AI Fuel Its Next Subscription Push?

Apple unveiled its new Siri AI and iOS 27 operating system on September 14, 2026. Former CEO Tim Cook initially announced Siri AI in 2024, but it was now CEO John Ternus leading the rollout alongside the launch of the iPhone Duo and other premium hardware. The company aimed at the high-end market due to semiconductor supply chain issues, which impacted memory and storage chip availability.

However, the high price tag of the iPhone Duo and Pro models leaves consumers questioning whether the AI features are worth the cost. Three key factors will determine Apple's success: Siri AI's adaptability to diverse regional speech patterns, its performance on older iPhone models, and the potential for consumers to subscribe to Siri AI services.

The focus on hardware comes with a high price, partly due to supply chain problems and the demand for powerful data centers, which raises memory prices. Gartner's Padhi suggests Apple's decision to target premium hardware is due to supply chain challenges rather than a deliberate strategy. Despite the premium pricing, some AI features, like Spatial Reframing and Image Playground, are exclusive to the higher-end models.

While Apple aims to provide a unified Siri AI experience across all devices, users with older or more affordable iPhone models may encounter limitations, particularly in personal context awareness, on-screen functionality, web information access, and dedicated Siri app. Nonetheless, India enjoys feature parity for many AI-powered services, such as Writing Tools, Genmoji, Image Playground, Mail and Messages summaries, voicemail summaries, Siri product knowledge, Type to Siri, and dictation.
