C-drama star Cheng Lei gets the full Malaysian welcome — from ‘sayang, dah makan belum?’ to cat drawings

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 14 - Chinese actor Cheng Lei made his highly anticipated first visit to Malaysia, greeted by thousands of enthusiastic fans who had camped outside Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Sunway Velocity Mall. As he stepped into the crowd, Cheng greeted them warmly in Bahasa Malaysia, saying, "Hi semua, nama saya Cheng Lei." The fans responded with enthusiasm, exclaiming, "Selamat datang ke Malaysia."

During the event at Sunway Velocity Mall, Cheng interacted with fans through various games and activities. The highlight of the event was the "Malaysian Gentleman Tone Challenge," where the actor learned to deliver popular Malay phrases with different tones, earning cheers and laughter from the audience. Cheng also showcased his photography skills, photographing fans posing as characters from his dramas.

Reflecting on his visit, Cheng expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and his desire to explore Malaysia further, particularly hoping to taste the famous nasi lemak. He also praised Malaysia's multicultural society and expressed hope to return in the future.
