Burnham will be last Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, says Swinney

Scottish First Minister John Swinney has declared that British Prime Minister Andy Burnham will be the final leader of the United Kingdom. At a joint press conference with Sinn Féin and Plaid Cymru leaders, Swinney stated that a Scottish independence referendum should take place within the next five years. The Scottish National Party (SNP) leader believes a "logic" in Burnham's support for devolution will ultimately result in Scotland's independence.

Swinney emphasized that if given the choice, Scottish voters would opt for independence, citing recent polling trends. The Scottish leaders also highlighted the "right to self-determination" and urged the UK government to prepare for and facilitate constitutional change in Scotland. Burnham previously expressed a willingness to hold a referendum if there was "clear consensus" among Scots, but later stated it was "off limits."

The SNP leader affirmed his commitment to a referendum during the current term of the Scottish Parliament, which ends in 2031.
