Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield Opens Up on Glaring Issue During Bengals Loss

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers suffered a 33-27 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in their Week 1 opener, primarily due to turnovers and late huddle exits. Quarterback Baker Mayfield discussed these issues during the post-game press conference, attributing them to headset problems. Mayfield stated, "We had some headset issues for quite a while in and out, which isn't an excuse, but when they're testing them on the sidelines and they work perfectly fine, then you get out to in between the hashes, and it's not working."

This issue only affected the first drive and sporadically throughout the game. Mayfield noted it was the worst headset issue he'd experienced. Despite these challenges, the offense performed well, converting third downs 5-of-10 times and completing 82% of his passes with a 98.8 passer rating. Notably, the Buccaneers scored 27 points, surpassing their 22.4 points per game average from the previous season.
