Bob Mackie, fashion designer who dressed the stars and defined '70s glamour, dies at 87

Born in Monterey Park, California in 1939, Mackie was largely raised by his maternal grandparents following his parents' divorce when he was just two years old. He later moved in with his father and attended Rosemead High School in Rosemead, California. His career took off when he was hired to sketch for Frank Thompson at Paramount Studios. Mackie contributed to the studio as an assistant designer under Ray Aghayan in the early 1960s.
