Bilawal urges democratic forces to safeguard constitution

Islamabad: Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan People's Party, emphasized the importance of democracy on World Democracy Day, observed on September 15. He highlighted that democracy is a fundamental right that enables people to select their leaders, influence their future, and hold those in authority accountable. Bilawal highlighted the contributions of numerous democratic activists and political figures who have worked tirelessly to preserve democracy in Pakistan, despite numerous challenges.

He reminded the audience that democracy stands as a legacy from those who made the ultimate sacrifice, including Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, who dedicated their lives to empowering the populace and fortifying democratic institutions. The PPP Chairman reiterated the party's commitment to the cause of democracy, constitutional authority, social justice, equality, and the rights of the people.

He urged all democratic forces to maintain unity and protect the Constitution, Parliament, and the people's right to choose their representatives. Bilawal pointed out that Pakistan's past is replete with instances where anti-democratic elements, sometimes fueled by external machinations, have sought to undermine the democratic process and deprive citizens of their basic rights.

On this World Democracy Day, he implored everyone to reiterate their commitment to safeguarding the democratic legacy of their martyrs. He stressed that the mandate of the people must remain paramount and that democracy should never again be sacrificed for power.
