Bihar NDA Faces UCC Divide As JD(U) Opposes Implementation, While BJP Allies Seek Clarity On Proposed Law

Bihar's NDA is experiencing a divide over the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), with the JD(U) party firmly opposing it. Former Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar's JD(U) has reiterated its stance against the UCC's implementation in Bihar, despite previously supporting the UCC Bill in Parliament. Nitish Kumar's earlier position was restated by his party's national spokesperson, Rajiv Ranjan Prasad, who mentioned that the party chief and former chief minister Nitish Kumar had successfully gathered support from a section of Muslims during his tenure as CM.

This decision could potentially impact the BJP-led NDA government, as the party relies on the JD(U) allies for its support. The RJD party also opposed the proposed UCC implementation, accusing the BJP of resorting to the "politics of hate." In contrast, the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) have expressed openness to the UCC's implementation, provided that they have a chance to review the draft bill and consult with all coalition allies before making a final decision.
